Jackrabbit Homestead: Tracing the Small Tract Act in the Southern California Landscape, 1938–2008 published by the Center for American Places is now available for online pre-order at www.kimstringfellow.com. The book explores the cultural history and physical landmarks that resulted from the implementation of the 1938 Small Tract Act throughout Southern California's Morongo Basin region near Joshua Tree National Park. The Small Tract Act was one of the many land acts designed to dispose of “useless” federal lands from the U.S. public domain. The hardbound book contains sixty-one color plates and a text by Kim Stringfellow.
